Introduction

Tamás Hajnal was born in Esztergom, the 15th March 1981. He started playing football in Nyergesújfalu but thanks to his enormous talent, he was given the chance of playing at Ferencváros at the age of 9.

Hajnal moved on the ladder quickly: being 16, he already had his debut in the first division. Following a short loan period in Vác, his skills raised the attention of the scouts of Schalke 04 which team offered him with a contract immediately.

He was a regular in the reserve team of the blue-white club, scored 50 goals in 122 appearances. Due to the little opportunity to prove in the first team however, he signed to Belgium, to Sint-Truiden in 2004.

After two years in Belgium Hajnal moved back to Germany and played in the second division at Kaiserslautern. One year later he signed to the newly promoted Karlsruhe and as a regular there, scored 8 times in 34 appearances. Hajnal has been chosen as the Player of the Fall Season by the supporters of the blue-white team in 2007.

Both in 2007 and 2008 Hajnal was awarded with the Hungarian Golden Ball; in the latter year he already belonged to Borussia Dortmund. He had his debut in the black-yellow club in the Super Cup final and with his goal the team won the series. Until his major injury in 2010, he was a regular in Dortmund.

Following his recovering, he could not get back to the first team and thus, he spent spring 2011 in Stuttgart on loan and later VfB offered him with a contract. While Hajnal played a key role with his goals and assists in VfB’s avoidance of relegation, he officially won the champion title as a player of Dortmund.

Hajnal spent the next two seasons in Stuttgart and got in to the group stage of Europa League both years. They also played a final in the German Cup. In 2013 he moved on to Ingolstadt where after a change in the head coach’s position, he lost his place in the squad.

Tamás Hajnal has trained with Ferencváros in the fall of 2014 and as of spring 2015, he will run on to pitch wearing the green-white jersey.

Between 2004 and 2013 Tamás Hajnal made 59 appearances at our national side and scored 7 times. Against Estonia in 2012, Hajnal scored the winning goal.
