A GOALLESS DRAW IN A HARD-FOUGHT MATCH
Our men's football team played a 0-0 draw against Vasas in the 17th round of the championship.

After defeating ZTE 2-1 away from home, our defending Hungarian champions, cup and UEL group winners hosted Vasas in their first match of 2023 at the Groupama Arena. Stanislav Cherchesov started the match with Dibusz - Wingo, S. Mmaee, Kovacevic, Civic - Besic, Esiti - Traoré, Mercier, Tokmac - R. Mmaee.

Before the kick-off whistle, Ferencváros Torna Club president Gábor Kubatov presented Kristoffer Zachariassen with the Sports Moment of the Year award, which the 29-year-old Norwegian midfielder won for his goal against Monaco, which saw Ferencváros finish top of Group H and qualify for the UEFA Europa League Best 16s.

First half

The first real chance came in the ninth minute, when Civic's left-wing free-kick was met by Kovacevic down the far side but the attempt was saved by the defence. A minute later Mercier curled a corner into the middle, again Kovacevic rose but Uram saved.

The rest of the match was dominated by our team, Vasas only rarely crossed the halfway line. After half an hour of play, the most serious situation of the match came: a corner kick was taken, the shot bounced off an Angyalföld defender and just missed Uram's goal.

In the 37th minute, we counter-attacked after a clearance, but Tokmac's shot missed the target. Vasas threatened for the first time in the second half, but could not break through Dibusz.

After 45 minutes of play, neither side had scored and the teams went into the break with a 0-0 scoreline.

Second half

We continued offensively immediately after the turnaround and didn't have to wait long for the first chance, but it remained 0-0. Moments later, we tried to get on the right wing but our centering shot was cut from Ryan Mmaee. In the 52nd minute Tokmac made a great save near the baseline, the pass was good but Ryan Mmaee couldn't find the net. Three minutes later, his brother also had a chance, but a corner from Mercier was in vain and the shot came off the post.

In the 59th minute, Besic ran past the defenders alone and shot from a slightly out-of-bounds position, but only hit the side netting. We created a chain of chances, in the 64th minute Wingo got a great deep ball but Uram saved. Stanislav Cherchesov made his first substitution, two of them immediately: Marquinhos and Vécsei came on for Mercier and Esiti.

In the 75th minute, Marquinhos managed to get a shot in, the rebound fooled the visiting goalkeeper but missed and the score remained 0-0. Ten minutes before the end of normal time, Kovacevic slid a back-heeled effort towards the net, but right into the hands of Uram. We made two changes in the final minutes: Ryan Mmaee and Tokmac left the pitch, replaced by Boli and Auzqui. For our Ivory Coast striker it was his first match since his concussion.

In the six minutes of extra time, we kept our opponents in front of their own goal, but we could not score, so we played out a 0-0 draw.

Our men's football team will next play Paks on Wednesday, 1 February at 18.30 in a postponed meeting from the fourth round of the championship, and then on Sunday, 5 February at 17.30 we will host Újpest in the first home derby of the year and the season.
