Our defending champion men's soccer team continues its march forward. After the midweek MOL Hungarian Cup match, Ferencváros headed east again, taking the field as guests of Nyíregyháza Spartacus in the closing match of the 25th round of the Fizz League. After ETO FC suffered a defeat in Zalaegerszeg, our team took to the field knowing that a victory would put them back at the top of the table. Injuries and Hungarian regulations forced the coaching staff to make changes once again.
After the midweek MOL Hungarian Cup victory against Kazincbarcika, our head coach Robbie Keane sent Dibusz, Szalai, Gómez, Raemaekers, Osváth, Abu Fani, Madarász, Kanikovszki, Nagy B., Yusuf, and Joseph onto the pitch.
First half
The match started with a home opportunity, but our defense handled it well, and Joseph pulled back on the left wing from the counterattack, although this did not result in a serious opportunity. However, we took the lead from the next attack, with Yusuf beating the defender trying to keep up with him and then finding Mohammed Abu Fani perfectly in the middle, who scored the opening goal (0-1).
It was a good decision by Robbie Keane to start Bamidele Yusuf again, as MMK's top scorer received an excellent pass from Abu Fani, and Temesvári was unable to keep up with our Nigerian striker, who doubled the lead (0-2).

In the 19th minute, we could have scored our next goal when Kovács came out of his goal and sent in a powerful cross, but Yusuf was unable to get on the end of it, so Nyíregyháza escaped. This came back to haunt us a few minutes later when, after a corner, Kvasina was left unmarked and Dibusz Dénes was unable to reach his shot (1-2).
At the end of the first half, Yusuf had another chance, but he failed to control Joseph's pass and shot the ball slightly over the goal.
Second half
The home goalkeeper made the first save of the second half, with Joseph lifting Abu Fani's pass towards the goal. Nyíregyháza continued to be under pressure, with Gavriel Kanikovszki shooting just centimeters wide of the bottom right corner. After 70 minutes, it was Dénes Dibusz's turn to shine, proving once again that our goalkeeper is back in top form after his injury. In the last fifteen minutes, Júlio Romao came on for Joseph, as Keane's clear goal was to hold on to the three points despite our team's busy schedule. Kanikovszki had another chance to seal the match, but he missed, and in the end, Mariano Gómez scored from close range, securing the three points.
With the 3-1 victory, our team caught up with ETO in points and, thanks to its multiple victories, even surpassed them in the standings.
Ferencváros will next host Portuguese side SC Braga at home in the Europa League round of 16 on Thursday, March 12, at 9:00 p.m.
