We have some fantastic news to share with our fans: it’s now official that Ádám Nagy is returning to our soccer team after more than ten years playing abroad.

The midfielder had been a member of our academy since 2013, and in July 2015 he moved up from FTC II to our first team. Our head coach at the time, Thomas Doll, quickly threw the then-20-year-old young talent into the deep end, and he soon became a fan favorite thanks to his incredible work ethic. He ultimately made 41 appearances for our team. After winning one league title and two Hungarian Cups, he was also a member of the Hungarian national team that qualified for the 2016 European Championship, after which Bologna in Italy snapped him up. Thus, following Zoltán Gera, following Somalia and Muhamed Besic, we once again sent a player to one of the top-five leagues, this time to Italy’s top division.

He spent three seasons with his first foreign club, recording one goal and one assist in 57 matches. Afterward, Ádám Nagy moved to Bristol City in England’s second division, where he played from 2019 to 2021, appearing in a total of 62 matches and tallying three goals and four assists. After his years in England, the midfielder returned to Italy to join Pisa, an Italian second-division club, where he played in 85 matches and recorded three assists. Finally, in January 2024, he transferred to Spezia, first on loan and then permanently in the summer of 2024. With Spezia, he came close to promotion to Serie A, though the team ultimately fell short; nevertheless, Ádám played in 78 matches for his last Italian club, recording three assists.

The 31-year-old player has been a key member of the Hungarian national team in recent years, having earned 88 caps to date and serving as a starter on our teams at the 2016, 2021, and 2024 European Championships. He has scored two goals for the national team so far: his first came against Finland in a 2019 Nations League match, and he found the back of the net against Montenegro in November 2023.
