It wasn’t that long ago - on May 9, 2026, at the Ferenc Puska Stadium - that we defeated ZTE 1-0 in extra time thanks to a beautiful goal by Toon Raemaekers, securing Ferencváros’s 25th Hungarian Cup title.

Then, on September 12, we took the field in Debrecen for the third round of the 2026–27 Hungarian Cup. This time, our opponent wasn’t DVSC, but Debrecen’s smaller team, DEAC, at the charming university sports center, whose stands were nicely filled by the time the match kicked off in the early afternoon. The home team set the tone with a show befitting the occasion, featuring cheerleaders and the university’s American-style marching band.

First Half

It would have been hard to get off to a better start: Matús Bero put Fradi ahead just 29 seconds into the game (0-1)! Five minutes later, we were already leading by two goals, and our newly signed Slovak midfielder had already scored twice after he passed the ball—which had rebounded off goalkeeper Kovacevic—into the net (0-2).

By the 12th minute, we were already leading 3-0 after Csongor Lakatos headed Levi’s cross past the unsteady Bence Lisztes into the net.

In the 18th minute, Bero came close to a hat trick, and in the very next minute, the home team’s goalkeeper saved a shot by Birmancsevics.

In the 26th minute, Ádám Varga’s goal was threatened for the first time in the match, but Vince Fekete misjudged the ball at the five-and-a-half-yard line, so the chance to pull one back was missed. Nor did the lead grow any further, as Bence Lisztes made a fine save on Levi’s shot in the 32nd minute.

In the 38th minute, however, there was no doubt about it: after a through ball, Franko Kovacevic calmly slotted the ball into the home team’s net (0–4).

Second Half

In the opening minutes, we could have scored more goals, but Keita’s shot was blocked, while Kovacevic’s strike went just centimeters wide of the left post, and then Bero also missed a sure chance. The only question was when our fifth goal would come.

In the 58th minute, Levi’s shot went just wide of the goal, and shortly after that, we made our first substitutions: Ádám Madarász and Ádám Bagi came on for Keita and Kovacevic.

Then, in the 62nd minute, another Fradi goal came: Matús Bero showed that he has an eye for the goal even from a distance, firing the ball into the lower left corner from the 16-meter line (0–5).

In the 67th minute, Ádám Madarász hit the right post. In addition to the goals, it was also a joy to see Habib Maiga return to the field after a long absence; he replaced Naby Keita in the 68th minute. However, it was by no means a cause for celebration when, in the 72nd minute, Nathan Zohoré remained on the ground, clutching his ankle; fortunately, our French defender was able to continue playing after receiving brief medical attention.

In the 78th minute, we scored our sixth goal: Kristoffer Zachariassen, who had come on as a substitute ten minutes earlier, earned and then converted a penalty (0-6). And it wasn’t over yet: in the 88th minute, Jonathan Levi earned another penalty, and he, too, made no mistake from the spot (0-7) . Our Swedish forward, after providing two assists, scored a goal of his own.

In stoppage time, the home team nearly scored a consolation goal off a corner kick, but Ádám Varga made a tremendous save to prevent it.
