Ferencváros played its away match against ETO FC on Thursday, September 3—a game originally scheduled for August 8 as part of the third round of the OTP Bank Liga. The match had been postponed at that time due to a preseason friendly against Real Madrid. Our team traveled to Győr following last weekend’s 2-1 victory over Puskás Akadémia, but ahead of Sunday’s derby against Újpest FC.

Head coach Balázs Borbély made several changes to the starting lineup that had defeated Puskás; this time, the team took the field with the following lineup: Dibusz – O. Nagy, Raemaekers, Gómez, Cadu – Á. Nagy, Corbu – Arzani, Zachariassen, Bagi – Yusuf.

First Half

Despite the 7:30 p.m. kickoff, the match began in summer-like heat, and the first big chance belonged to Fradi: in the 6th minute, Daniel Arzani curled a free kick toward the goal from the edge of the penalty area, forcing Samuel Petrás to make a great save. In the 13th minute, Zeljko Gavrics also tested Dénes Dibusz from a set piece, facing the goal but from a greater distance, but our goalkeeper was able to make the save.

Following these early chances, we took the lead in the first half-hour, in the 27th minute, to be exact. Daniel Arzani dribbled his way into the box, from where he lofted the ball precisely onto the head of Ádám Bagi, who was arriving at the five-meter line; the 19-year-old attacking midfielder nodded it in, scoring his first senior goal for Fradi and putting us up 1-0.

In the 42nd minute of a quietly unfolding match, our opponent launched a dangerous counterattack; Njie Nfansu broke down the wing and took a shot, but Dénes Dibusz made the save. Nothing else of note happened, and at halftime, Ferencváros led 1–0 in Győr.

Second Half

During halftime, only the Győr players made substitutions; Balázs Borbély did not. Bamidele Yusuf tested goalkeeper Petrás with a shot in the 47th minute, but our forward missed the goal from 23 meters out. Ten minutes later, Arzani took a shot from inside the penalty area, but Petrás made the save once again.

At the end of the first hour, our coach made some substitutions: he took off goal-scorer Bagi and Máriusz Corbu, bringing on Krisztián Lisztes and Naby Keita. Shortly thereafter, Keita’s shot from 16 meters out struck the crossbar. Soon after, one of our new signings, Veljko Birmancsevics, entered the game, replacing Arzani. The match was decided in the following minutes: first, in the 70th minute, Mariano Gómez headed the ball into the net off a corner kick by Cadu (0–2), and then, two minutes later, Krisztián Lisztes scored from 9 meters out following a cross by the newly substituted Birmancsevics (0–3).

With one minute remaining in the match, Keita fouled Urblik inside the Ferencváros penalty area, and following a VAR review, a penalty kick was awarded. However, Dénes Dibusz rose to the occasion alongside his teammates’ outstanding performance and made a spectacular save on the penalty kick. In the six minutes of stoppage time, the score remained unchanged, and our team secured the three points in Győr with an extremely confident and impressive performance.

Our team’s next match is on September 6 (Sunday) when we’ll face Újpest FC in the Budapest derby.
