Confident victory in Nyíregyháza
Ferencváros beat Nyíregyháza 4-1 in the Fizz League.

After the midweek Champions League qualifier against Ludogorets, our 36-time Hungarian champion men's football team faced another challenge in the league, visiting Nyíregyháza in the third round of the Fizz League. Before the match, Robbie Keane said that several players from our squad who had played less so far this season would be given a chance, and accordingly, our head coach put his trust in the starting lineup of Gróf – Botka, Cissé, Raemaekers – Cadu, Maiga, Levi, Keita, Nagy – Varga, Gruber.

First half

Our team kicked off the match and immediately launched a dangerous attack on the home team's goal in the first minute, but ultimately failed to score. Nyíregyháza dominated possession in the following minutes, with the red-and-blues playing courageously. In the 11th minute, Gróf had to save Májer's shot. A minute later, the play was in front of Kersák's goal, Gruber dribbled in from the right wing and shot into the bottom left corner (0-1).

Five minutes later, Levi made a great sprint and crossed the ball, but the players arriving at the goal couldn't reach it because Szpari's goalkeeper dove and knocked the ball out for a corner kick. In the 22nd minute, our team started in the middle of the field, Keita broke forward, then passed to Barnabás Varga, who pushed the ball past Kersák and rolled it into the net (0-2).

In the 31st minute, Keita and Varga were again the protagonists, but after a good pass, our striker was unable to shoot, and Barnabás Nagy, who was arriving, was also unable to put the ball in the net. Two minutes later, the referee awarded a free kick for a foul on Gruber, and Jonathan Levi stood behind the ball placed in front of the 16-yard line and curled it beautifully into the net (0-3). It was our Swedish winger's first goal in a Ferencváros shirt, and our team scored a free kick goal again after August 2023, when Ramírez found the net in Székesfehérvár.

Two minutes before the end of the half, Levi found himself in position again, but after Cadu's assist, he shot wide of the goal. The last chance of the half fell to the home side, with Dominik Nagy firing in a shot from 24 meters, but Dávid Gróf pushed the ball onto the crossbar.

Second half
After the break, Katona was the first to try his luck, but Gróf saved the long-range shot. In the 50th minute, Edomwonyi tried to outsmart our goalkeeper, but Gróf dived to make another save.  Five minutes later, our team was awarded a free kick, but Raemaekers' shot went over the bar after Levi's cross. In the 60th minute, Edomwonyi was fouled in the box, and the following free kick caused no danger.

However, our team brought the ball into play illegally, with Cissé handling the ball in the box, resulting in a penalty for the home side. Edomwonyi converted the penalty, reducing the deficit for the home side (1-3). The response was not long in coming, as in the 73rd minute, the referee awarded a penalty for a foul after a corner, which Gruber Zsombor converted (1-4). In the final minutes, there were chances for both sides, but neither team was able to score, so Ferencváros won 4-1.

Our men's football team will next take to the field on Tuesday, August 12, at 8:15 p.m. at Groupama Arena against Ludogorec in the second leg of the Champions League third qualifying round.
