On Monday, our defending Hungarian championship men's football team travelled to the first training camp of the summer in Mezőkövesd, where they played their first preparation match against the hosts Mezőkövesd Zsóry FC on Friday. Head coach Robbie Keane fielded a starting line-up of Gróf - Cissé, Raemaekers, Raul Gustavo - Makreckis, Ötvös, Keita, Cadu, Joseph - Pesics, Zachariassen for the meeting at the Mezőkövesd training ground.
First half
Ferencváros started the match more actively, we immediately took the initiative and did not have to wait long for the first chance, in the 3rd minute Lenny Joseph shot from the left, just outside the penalty area, flatly wide of the goal. Two minutes later, our Franco-Haitian striker threatened again, but the home goalkeeper Deczki made a great save.
In the 10th minute, Bertus attempted for the first time on the home side, firing a shot from the centre of the goal. In the 13th minute, Fradi threatened again, Keita won a ball in the attacking area and sent a great pass to Cadu on the left, whose shot was saved by Deczki.
In the 20th minute, Mezőkövesd came close to taking the lead, József Szalai stepped out of the defence and passed past Gróf into the bottom left corner, but the home striker was caught offside. Seven and a half minutes later, a Raemaekers foul allowed Mezőkövesd to take a free-kick from a promising position, from about 25 metres out, but Lőrinczy's curling effort was confidently held by Gróf.
In the 30th minute we saw a dangerous scene in front of the home goal, Cadu's pass was pushed onto the post by Deczki, but six minutes later we finally took the lead: a great counterattack was led by our team, at the end of which Joseph crossed from the left to Kristoffer Zachariassen, who crossed the ball into the net after a pull-back (0-1). Two minutes later, we were two goals up, as Lenny Joseph, who had dived over from the edge of the box, fired a low shot into the net (0-2). In the 41st minute, a superb individual flash of brilliance was shown, as Lenny Joseph put a fine shot from midfield outside the box under the bar (0-3). The scoreline remained the same until the end of the half, and we went into the break with a three-goal lead.
Second half
At the break we changed the whole team, and for the second half FTC came out with the formation of Varga Ádám - Kaján, Botka, Lakatos Csongor, Nagy Barnabás - Baráth, Madarász, Traoré, Gruber, Cirkovic - Saldanha.
The first chance of the game was for the home team, in the 50th minute József Szalai's header had to be saved by the newcomer Ádám Varga. Immediately from the counter-attack our team threatened, Traoré's ballooned shot scuffed the right post and left the field of play. Then, in the 53rd minute, Ferencváros scored the first goal of the second half, when Péter Baráth headed Gruber's right-wing cross into the net (0-4). Three minutes later, we were close to a fifth, when Saldanha found the ball in the opponent's penalty area, dribbled his way into position, but his shot was saved by the home goalkeeper, as was Gruber's long-range effort from a flat angle less than a minute later.
In the 60th minute Mezőkövesd came close to adding time, Vajda found himself in position after a nice passing move, but shot over the goal. In the 63rd minute, Fradi made a forced substitution as Saldanha limped off the pitch, replaced by the newly-arrived Jonathan Levi. A minute later, Gruber scored from the centre of the penalty area after a nice solo run, but the home goalkeeper made a great save. In the 68th minute, Levi, an unexpected arrival, shot from a promising position in midfield and hit the crossbar.
The second half was relatively quiet, until the 84th minute, when after Levi's corner, Botka's cross was crossed in front of the goal, and from the second pass Baráth headed just wide of the right side of the goal.
There were no more chances to record, so Ferencváros won 4-0 against the hosts Mezőkövesd Zsóry FC on the final day of the first summer training camp in Mezőkövesd, thanks to a confident game, especially the strong play in the first half.
After the match, our team will travel back to Budapest, then we will continue our training in Népliget for a week, before heading to the familiar venue of Lienz and the second summer training camp in Austria.
