Before the match
The 33-time Hungarian champions played their last home game of the 2021/22 season. After the match, the championship medals and trophy were handed over, and our fans were able to celebrate with our team on the pitch during the event!
Against MTK, head coach Stanislav Cherchesov opted for a starting line-up of Bogdán - Botka, Blazic, Civic - Besic, Vécsei, Esiti, Laidouni - Gavric, Bassey, Tokmac, and the bench included the son of our former excellent footballer Krisztián Lisztes, the attacking midfielder Krisztián Lisztes, who has been a member of our U19 and NB III football teams, and who celebrated his 17th birthday a day before the match against MTK.
Before kick-off, Pál Orosz presented a commemorative plaque to Bálint Vécsei, who played his 50th league match for Ferencváros against ZTE.
First half
The match started with an MTK corner, but there was no danger in front of our goal, then Civic's cross was inaccurate. Within a short period of time we had three corners, but no chance was created. Our first big opportunity came in the 9th minute but Laidouni's shot from a sharp angle was saved by the goalkeeper. Three minutes later, Bogdán moved for MTK's shot but it was blocked by our defence. In the 21st minute, Vécsei unleashed a powerful long-range ball kick, and goalkeeper Mijatovic had to stretch to save. A minute later, after a great start by Esiti, Tokmac found the net, but the referee disallowed the goal for a foul. A corner was headed to Besic, who fired over from distance.
In the 28th minute, Laidouni's cross was headed over by Civic, who crossed into the middle. Six minutes later, Tokmac broke inside the penalty area and his shot was saved by Mijatovic. We then had a free-kick from the side of the sixteen, Tokmac's free-kick from the rebound was wide of the target. There were no more major incidents in the first half, so the teams went into the break with a goalless draw.
Second half
After three minutes of play in the second half, Miknyóczki shot from Futács' start but missed the target. Shortly afterwards Botka's cross was headed over by Besic. In the 60th minute, Futács gave the visitors the lead (0-1). After the goal, Stanislav Cherchesov made three
substitutions: Zachariassen, Auzqui and Boli. Five minutes later Besic's shot was blocked and Boli shot over. Then came further changes, with Pászka and Marin also coming on.
After a soft cross from Boli, Pászka tried to get a shot on goal, which was saved by Mijatovic, and then Botka missed the rebound. In the 76th minute, Spirovski missed. With ten minutes to go Botka would have passed to midfield but was cleared by the defenders. In the 84th minute MTK took a two-goal lead through Milovski (0-2). We were close to a second in the 88th minute, Zachariassen and Auzqui tried to score, but the ball was finally saved by the goalkeeper. In the last minute of extra time, Futács' shot from close range set the final score (0-3).
Our team will next be on the pitch on Wednesday 11 May at 19.30 in the MOL Hungarian Cup final against Paks, followed by an away league match against Gyirmót on Saturday 14 May.
