Despite numerous chances, we lost to Rapid
Ferencvaros suffered a 1-0 defeat in their second training match in Spain.

After suffering a 2-0 defeat to German side Holstein Kiel, our defending champions played a training match against Austrian side Rapid Wien at their training camp in Spain.

Ferencváros started with Varga – Cissé, Raemaekers, Szalai – Cadu, Zachariassen, Júlio Romao, Kanikovszki, O’Dowda – Joseph, Yusuf.

First half

The first chance of the match fell to Bamidele Yusuf, but our Nigerian striker headed just wide of the goal. In the 21st minute, Lenny Joseph had a huge chance, but goalkeeper Niklas Hedl moved well out of his goal and made the save. Ten minutes later, the Austrian goalkeeper made another great save from our French striker.

Ferencváros, who dominated the game throughout, came even closer to scoring in the 39th minute, but after a scramble in the box, the ball ended up bouncing off the Vienna crossbar. Fradi was ultimately unable to convert its many chances and dominance into goals in the first half, so the teams went into the break with a scoreless tie after 45 minutes of play.

Second half

Robbie Keane refreshed his team with three substitutions for the second half. However, Rapid took the lead in the 51st minute. Hungarian international defender Bolla Bendegúz, who came on at half-time, rolled the ball into the box for Matthias Seidl, who controlled it and calmly shot into the bottom left corner. 0-1!

Fradi quickly reorganized, but had to wait until the 68th minute for a big chance. Substitute Gruber Zsombor received a great ball from Mariano Gómez, but goalkeeper Gartler once again came out of his goal at the right moment and cleared the ball away from our national team player.

In the 71st minute, Amane's shot missed the goal, and a minute later Barnabás Nagy fell inside the box under interesting circumstances, but the referee did not award a penalty. In the 73rd minute, Haidara's low shot was no problem for Ádám Varga. Alex Tóth also had a promising opportunity in the 78th minute, but his shot was blocked by the defenders. Nine minutes later, Tóth made a great pass to Gruber inside the box, but our striker shot over the goal.

In the remaining minutes, Rapid had another dangerous free kick, but Varga made a fine save. There were no further chances, and Rapid Wien won 1-0.

Our team will play its third and final preparatory match at the training camp in Spain on Thursday, January 15, at 2 p.m. We will face Danish club FC Midtjylland. Of course, our fans will be able to watch a live broadcast of that match as well.
