Following last year’s drawing, our team faces Celtic this season again on the international ground. Last year we won 2-1 and somewhat unexpectedly advanced towards the Champions League group stage. This year, we meet again in the Europa League group and have both home and away fixtures against Celtic. The other major difference is that this time Celtic plays with their supporters behind their backs, 50.000 people in Celtic Park.
We had a quick chance after the start which Ryan Mmaee could not finish and a few minutes later also Dibusz needed to stretch himself on the other side. The Scottish team played mostly on the wings and focused on crossings centered into the penalty area. These caused on some occasions danger in front of our goal and Dibusz needed show his best skills one after another. In the remaining part of the first 45 the Hungarian side also created more chances, Vécsei was closest to scoring, it felt like we could take the lead.
After half time, Celtic took our enthusiasm away with a quick goal: Jota launched Furuhashi smartly who finished the attack calmly. Our troubles grew even more when Celtic received a penalty, that Dibusz could save from McGregor. This did not bring us closer to equalizing and in the 82nd minute Celtic closed the match by their second and Turbull’s first goal.
We host Celtic in two weeks at the Groupama Arena and MTK in the league on 24th of October.
