Eight magical minutes and a huge comeback in Salzburg!
Ferencvaros won 3-2 at Red Bull Salzburg in the UEFA Europa League main draw.

In the early afternoon, everyone was calmly awaiting our defending champions' UEFA Europa League match against Red Bull Salzburg, but then torrential rain arrived in the city, along with bad news. As is well known, our fans traveling by train were turned back by the Austrian authorities at the Austrian-Hungarian border. Our club issued a statement about the events. In addition, our team captain, Dénes Dibusz, our head coach, Robbie Keane, as well as Kristoffer Zachariassen and Stefan Gartenmann also sent messages to the Ferencváros fans.

First half

Although nearly 600 of our fans were unable to attend, we can safely say that the voices of the hundreds of Fradi supporters who arrived safely at the stadium could be heard all the way to Budapest.

In the opening minutes, both teams were still getting to know the pitch, but in the 6th minute, Bence Ötvös and Toon Raemaekers made a great tackle and block to stop a Salzburg attack. On the other side, Bamidele Yusuf tried his luck, but our Nigerian striker shot into the side netting.

Unfortunately, the home team took the lead in the 13th minute. The ball luckily found its way to Edmund Baidoo in front of the box, and the Ghanaian striker shot into the bottom left corner from 16 meters. 1-0! The Salzburg team kept up the momentum, with Kerim Alajbegovic shooting well over the goal from 18 meters after a nice solo run.

Then, in the 20th minute, the breakthrough could have come! Kristoffer Zachariassen received a great ball on the right, broke into the box and shot, but the ball deflected off an Austrian player's hand for a corner. Barnabás Varga stepped up to take the penalty, but his shot to the right was saved by Alexander Schlager, and the rebound also ended up in the Austrian goalkeeper's hands.

Alajbegovic was very active, but fortunately his long-range shot in the 26th minute went wide. From Ferencváros's point of view, we tried many dangerous crosses, but the Austrian defenders consistently cleared the ball.

There were no major chances for either side before the break, so the teams went into halftime with the home side leading 1-0.

Second half

Wwhat happened after the break is not something we will easily forget! In the 50th minute, Ötvös played a great ball to Varga, who made no mistake from close range. 1-1! Less than six minutes later, Cadu played a superb pass to Zachariassen, who slid the ball into the bottom left corner. 1-2!

And the magic continued! In the 58th minute, Yusuf received a pass from Zachariassen and took on a defender, shaking him off before shooting into the right side of the goal from 16 meters out. 1-3!

The Austrians were completely stunned by the three goals they conceded in eight minutes. In the 68th minute, Ötvös took a shot from 17 meters, forcing Schlager to make a great save. In the 72nd minute, Salzburg won a poorly headed ball, substitute Yorbe Vertessen received a good pass, shook off Ibrahim Cissé and made no mistake from 12 meters. 2-3!

Just as Fradi was spurred on by the quick goals, Salzburg was also spurred on by the consolation goal. First, Dibusz made a brilliant save from Alajbegovic's shot, then Vertessen headed over the bar. Robbie Keane tried to freshen up his team with substitutions. It was clear that RB Salzburg was trying everything to equalize. In the final minutes, a lucky bounce fell to Gadou, but despite the great opportunity, his shot went wide. Salzburg continued to push forward for the equalizer in extra time, but they were unable to break through our defense.

Our men's soccer team thus made a sensational comeback to win 3-2 away at Salzburg, giving them 7 points after three rounds in the UEFA Europa League group stage.
