Europa League Group Stage
Heroic farewell from the Champions League after a close defeat from Young Boys.

The Champions League tour for Ferencváros has ended for Ferencváros for this season today. After suffering a close, 3-2 defeat in the first leg of the playoff in Switzerland, a full house waited the teams at the Groupama Arena with fighter spirit to achieve for the second year in a row the group stage. Young Boys surprised us in the beginning of the match and scored quicly from a corner in the 5th minute. Although the early goal shocked the team, we gradually turned to be more initiative and scored twice in the first half. First, Wingo equalized from Ryan Mmaee’s crossing, and ten minutes later Ryan scored himself.

Both the result and the play looked promising for the second half, however the Swiss team came onto us and forced some mistakes out of our side. In the 56th minute Christian Fassnacht made it equal again after which we still went for another goal, but with the red card of Laidouni, not much chance remained. We fought for counter attacks and at some points were even able to cause danger in front of the Swiss box, we could not score another goal. Then, in the very last minute, Young Boys took advantage of our defense that opened up for the counter attacks, and finished their last attack with a goal. Similarly to the first leg, today’s match ended with 3-2 again for Young Boys.

Ferencváros this way puts an end to the Champions League journey for now and continues playing in the Europa League group stage in the fall.
