Experienced Slovak midfielder signs
Matús Bero has played for Dutch, Turkish, and German clubs throughout his career.

Ferencvaros - 36-time Hungarian league champions and 25-time Hungarian Cup winners - has been strengthened by an experienced Slovak midfielder who has proven himself in top-tier leagues. Matús Bero, who has earned 50 caps for the Slovak national team, has joined the Ferencvaros squad.

Bero was born on September 6, 1995, in Ilava, Slovakia. He began his career at one of the country’s biggest clubs, AS Trenčín, and made his senior debut for the Trenčín team on July 21, 2013.

He left the red-and-whites after scoring 26 goals in 94 matches, having won two league titles and two cup titles. He also appeared in the Champions League twice with Trencín, scoring two goals in six matches. At the end of the 2014–15 season, he earned not only the title of Young Footballer of the Year but also that of Slovakia’s Best Footballer of the Year.

In 2016, he joined the Turkish club Trabzonspor. He spent two seasons on the Black Sea coast, scoring 3 goals in 44 matches for Trabzon.

In the summer of 2018, he signed with Vitesse, a team in the Dutch top division. He spent five seasons in Arnhem, scoring 10 goals in 37 matches during his first season. During the 2021–22 season, he appeared in 45 competitive matches for the Yellow-and-Blacks, 12 of which were in the UEFA Europa Conference League, where he scored four goals. After 173 matches and 25 goals, he changed teams and countries in the summer of 2023.

VfL Bochum, which plays in the Bundesliga, signed the midfielder whose contract was expiring. He scored six goals in 54 games over two seasons in the German top flight, but he spent his final season with Bochum in Bundesliga 2, where he appeared in 22 matches.

He made his debut for the Slovak national team in 2016 after progressing through all the youth national teams. Over the past decade, he has made a total of 50 appearances for the national team, including in the group stage match against Romania and the round of 16 match against England at the 2024 European Championship.

- Matus is a versatile midfielder who can play in various roles with great intensity, making the most of his physicality and ball control. In him, we’ve found a midfielder who fits well with our style of play. It’s also important that he’s played a key role for his teams in leagues with different styles across various countries, so he has extensive international experience. Following Gavi Kanikovszki’s departure, we were definitely looking for a player who could help us right away. Although he is officially a free agent, Matús has been training consistently with the Trenčín team and has produced very good results in fitness tests. He is the kind of person who has a positive influence on the team. We are very happy that we were able to sign him” said sports director Tamás Hajnal about our new player.
