Farewell from Champions League
Ferencváros suffered a 3-0 defeat to KÍ Klaksvík in the qualifying round of the Champions League.

Our 34-time Hungarian men's football champions hosted the Faroese champions KÍ Klaksvík in the second leg of the first qualifying round of the Champions League at the Groupama Arena. The first leg ended in a 0-0 draw, so the second leg of the tie decided the fate of the qualifying round.

First half

After the opening kick-off our team quickly took the initiative, but despite this the first chance fell to the visitors, in the fifth minute Dibusz Dénes had to make a great save, and after a corner from a shot Eldar Civic was fouled inside the penalty area and the referee pointed to the penalty spot. René Frederiksberg got behind the ball and confidently slotted home the penalty to give the away team the lead in the eighth minute.

However, the goal did not break the momentum of our side, we continued to attack the opposition goal. In the 16th minute, Adama Traoré fought out a corner, but Mats Knoester's header from a corner kick was off target, and in the 20th minute, Civic headed just over the bar after Botka's cross. However, our efforts were unsuccessful as in the 32nd minute the visitors scored again after a turnover, Frederiksberg scoring again.

In the 35th minute, Mohammed Abu Fani's long-range shot missed the target, and five minutes later Baráth shot wide from 25 metres. However, in extra time, Luc Kassi started on the right side and although Dibusz Dénes, could touch the ball of the opponents, he could not save it, so the score was a shocking 0-3 at the end of the first half.

Second half

Stanislav Cherchesov made two changes for the restart, Barath was replaced by Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane, while Gojak was replaced by Cebrail Makreckis. At the start of the second half, our team had more possession and tried to close down their opponents, but in the 52nd minute Kassi was on the move and Dibusz had to make a stunning save. In the 56th minute the visitors also made a substitution, with Frederiksberg, who scored twice, being replaced by Mikkelsen. A minute later, Owusu Kwabena and Krisztián Lisztes also came on for the home side, the former replacing Traore and the latter Zachariassen.

In the 60th minute, Civic had the chance to take a corner kick, but Owusu, who got on the ball, headed wide of the goal. Seven minutes later Barnabás Varga was in position, but the opposing goalkeeper came out of his goal well to save a corner. In the second half of the game, our team was clearly in control, but our chances were missed. In the 74th minute, Marquinhos came on for Civic and three minutes later, he headed over from Abu Fani's corner. In the 85th minute, the opposition had another chance but Dibusz saved. A minute later Samy Mmaee was shown a yellow card and in the 88th minute Barnabás Varga shot on goal but Johansson saved. The result remained unchanged.

With this result our team will continue in the 2nd qualifying round of the UEFA Conference League.
