Former Liverpool player Naby Keita added to our squad
Naby Keita has joined Ferencváros on loan from Werder Bremen.

Fantastic transfer! 35-time Hungarian champions and 24-time Hungarian Cup winners Ferencváros agreed with Naby Keita, the 58-time Guinean midfielder and former Liverpool champion and Champions League winner, to continue his career with the club. The excellent midfielder arrives on loan at Üllői út for a year with an option to buy.

Introduction

Naby Laye Keita was born on 10 February 1995 in Guinea. He started playing football for his hometown team at the age of nine and moved to France in 2012 to play for FC Istres.
A year later, he made his senior debut in the French second division. As an inside midfielder, he scored 11 goals in 23 games and stood out for the team, which was relegated to the third division at the end of the season.

Keita has moved up a level, however, as he joined Austrian giants Red Bull Salzburg in the summer. He quickly became a regular starter, scoring six goals and two assists in 44 games to help his club win the league and cup. His performances earned him a position in the Austrian Bundesliga's Team of the Year and he was even named player of the year. His second season in Austria was even better, scoring 14 goals in 37 appearances, with Salzburg defending their title in both domestic series.

German Bundesliga side RP Leipzig quickly snapped up Keita for nearly €30 million, who scored the winning goal in his first game in Leipzig against Borussia Dortmund and went on to score seven more times in his first season in Germany.

He was again named in the team of the year, but now in Germany. Although Leipzig were only chasing the Bundesliga at the time, Keita was part of the team that reached the UEFA Europa League quarter-finals in the 2017/18 season and was even named in the team of the year in the cup competition. Keita scored 17 times in 71 appearances during his time in Leipzig.

This summer, Liverpool of the English Premier League made an offer of €60 million, which Keita immediately accepted, and he joined the Reds for five years between 2018 and 2023.

He was given the number 8 shirt of club icon Steven Gerrard. He had an excellent season, winning the Champions League in his first year with Jürgen Klopp's side, although he was injured in May and was unable to play in the Champions League final against Tottenham. The following season, he was out until December due to injury, and the team won the Club World Cup thanks in part to him.

In January, however, he suffered a groin injury, and although he won the league title with his team, he played less time due to the injury.

Keita's Liverpool medal collection for the 2021/22 season included FA Cup and League Cup victories, and at the end of the season he won a silver medal in the Champions League final, losing to Real Madrid.

The Guinea midfielder won the English Super Cup with the team at the start of the 2022/23 season, but at the end of the season Liverpool announced that they would not extend the contract of Keita, who scored 11 goals in 129 appearances for the English team. Keita returned to the Bundesliga in the summer with Werder Bremen, where he has made five appearances so far.

The midfielder made his first appearance for his country in 2012, and has now worn the Guinea national team jersey a total of 58 times until 2024. He has been named his country's Footballer of the Year twice (2015, 2021).

Keita's playing style
A typical box-to-box midfielder, Keita's style of play is characterised by dynamism, speed, cretivity, great and accurate long passes, but he also has a tendency to score goals. An energetic player, Keita is a "360-degree radar" in the eyes of the former Manchester United and RB Leipzig head coach.
