Ferencváros played the first Budapest derby of the season at the Groupama Arena and in total the 230th. This has been a great practice game ahead of the Real Betis encounter in the Europa League next week. A superb audience waited the teams when running out of the tunnel and we got on top quickly when Uzuni was brought down inside the penalty area immediately after kick off. Ryan Mmaee stood behind the ball and did not miss his chance – this has been his first derby goal. We were close to increasing the difference, especially that Diaby was shown the red card in the 14th minute, and in the 40th minute we made it to 2-0. It looked easy at this point, but Újpest came back into the game before half time, Tallo scored an unexpected goal.
The second half was a match of fieldplay and VAR. The video referee intensified the emotions when the players and supporters needed to wait for some key decisions about a penalty situation and also when a goal was taken away from Uzuni in the 80th minute. He did not give up and five minutes later scored once again after Laidouni’s crossing, this time a goal that no one could take away. The remaining minutes meant no change in the result, we finished 3-1 against Újpest.
This has been a successful week for us with two key wins in the league: first over MOL Fehérvár, then the derby against Újpest.
