Gala, four goals and next round in UEL
FTC beat AZ Alkmaar 4-3 at home and can fight for a place in the round of 16.

The decisive match. That's how you could have described our men's football team's UEFA Europa League main draw against AZ Alkmaar. Robbie Keane sent his team out with the line-up Varga - Makreckis, Cissé, Gartenmann, Civic - Abu Fani, Maiga, Tóth A., Traoré - Ben Romdhane - Varga B.

The match started wonderfully, with Ferencváros taking the lead in the 9th minute through Ben Romdhane's superb header. Traoré crossed the ball from the right towards the far corner, and our Tunisian international dived between two defenders to head into the top right corner from four metres out. 1-0!

After the goal, Fradi kept the momentum going, Abu Fani's shot just over the goal. The Dutch also had a go, Kasius broke inside the penalty area from the right, made a flick and shot from six metres out, the ball bounced off the blocking Gartenmann's foot and to a corner. We were fortunate as Ádám Varga might not have been able to reach the rebound.

Unfortunately, Maiga was injured and Rommens replaced the midfielder, so the Ivorian was on the bench to see Traoré, after being set up by Alex Tóth, fire a 23-metre left-footed volley into the top left corner in the 34th minute. 2-0!

The second goal completely confused AZ. Before the break Ben Romdhane again showed flashes of brilliance, in the 45th minute after a pass from Makreckis, Abu Fani curled in front of goal and Ben, our Tunisian midfielder again positioned himself well and headed into the bottom right corner from six metres. 3-0!

In the second half, Ferencváros continued where they left off in the first 45 minutes. First, Makreckis' shot was saved by goalkeeper Owusu-Oduro.

The Dutch did not threaten at all and Fradi could play calmly. In the 74th minute Ben Romdhane's cross was headed in by Varga, who tried to turn with two defenders on his heels and managed to shoot, but the poor attempt was easily saved by Owusu-Oduro.

Two minutes later, Mijnans put the Dutch side in front, although they had not made any significant effort before then. In reply, Ben Romdhane fired in a shot that was well saved by Owusu-Oduro.

In the 82nd minute we were awarded a penalty for handling, Barnabás Varga got behind the ball and calmly shot into the middle of the goal. 4-1!

Unfortunately, we made two unnecessary mistakes in the last minutes, first in the 90th minute Irish Perrott, then again Mijnans scored, and in the 95th minute Ádám Varga had to make a great save. That was the end of the game, we won 4-3 and progressed to the last 16 of the UEFA Europa League
