Our defending champions played their eighth round league match Saturday night against MTK away at the New Hidegkuti Nándor Stadium. Dejan Stankovic started with Dibusz - Makreckis, Wingo, Abena, Ramírez - Ben Romdhane, Sigér - Abu Fani, Zachariassen, Marquinhos - Varga B.
First half
In the third minute, Varga's cross led to a chaotic scene in front of the home goal, but first Zachariassen and later Abu Fani failed to turn the ball to goal. Shortly afterwards, Varga intercepted a ball, left his defender with a fine flick, and then passed to Abu Fani, who sent the ball towards the net with a left-footed shot, but Demjén was able to save. In the 11th minute, Varga was again the protagonist, who was launched by Marquinhos, and our Hungarian striker lifted the ball over the goalkeeper, but it bounced off the post. It would have been a beautiful goal. The missed opportunities were avenged when Bognár gave MTK the lead (1-0) after we lost the ball. Five minutes later, the ball was in the home goal, but the goal was disallowed for an offside. But in the 23rd minute, nothing could save MTK, after Abu Fani's excellent cross, Barnabás Varga equalised with a superb header (1-1). In the 40th minute, we took the lead after Ben Romdhane saved a ball that looked lost at first, and Marquinhos was the best to meet his crossing and he did not miss it (1-2).
Second half
The second half started with a Ramírez free kick, but Demjén managed to save. Then, after a great combination between Makreckis and Marquinhos, Abu Fani had a shot but it was blocked by the defence. In the 55th minute, Marquinhos took control of the ball after an MTK mistake and flicked the ball past the onrushing Demjén, which ended up in the goal (1-3). At the other end, Bognár's shot missed our goal and then Dibusz had to save Stieber's attempt. Marquinhos came close to a hat trick, but this time the MTK goalkeeper saved. In the 63rd minute, Henry Wingo started from his own half and from about 20 metres out, he scored a great goal into the home goal, his first league goal for our team (1-4). Soon after, Muhamed Besic and Eldar Civic came on for Ben Romhdane and Ramírez. We didn't wait longer for substitutions. Aleksandar Pesic, Péter Baráth and Lóránd Pászka arrived, while Varga, Makreckis and Sigér left the pitch. In the 84th minute, Bognár came close to scoring, but Dibusz made a great save. Two minutes later, Besic's rebound off the crossbar: Demjén saved the first shot, but the ball, which bounced back to our Israeli national, ended up in the goal after the second shot (1-5). At the other end, Dibusz had to save Bognár's shot yet again. The icing on the cake was brought by Aleksandar Pesic (1-6). In the end, Dibusz had to be alert but it did not cause much trouble.
No more goals were scored, our team came from behind to win 6-1 against MTK in the Eternal Budapest Derby, so we can look forward to our UEFA Conference League match against Italian Fiorentina next Thursday with confidence.
