125 years ago on this day, Ferencvárosi Torna Club was founded in the IX. district of Budapest, on Bakáts Square. The nine stripes - five green and four white - which symbolise the IXth district of Budapest are a reference to this, or rather the beginnings, in the coat of arms of our club. And the three E's at the bottom of the shield-like logo refer to our club's motto: Morality, Strength, Unity.
FTC's 125-year history is unique and rich in unprecedented success, but we cannot ignore the difficult times.
Our club has not been broken by arbitrary stripping of its colours and name, illegal relegation to the second division or the confiscation of its best players.
The name of Ferencvárosi Torna Club has always been synonymous with success, popularity and passion. 125 years ago, a few enthusiastic young people felt an irresistible desire to play their favourite sport, football, in an organised, club setting. Their desire is reflected in every match - be it a test of strength in any division - in which an athlete from Ferencváros participates. Nothing could stop the beating of the Fradi Heart, the green and white of the FTC means the same to the now million-strong camp as it did to the founders from Bakáts Square.
In its history, Ferencváros has trained Olympic champions, world and European champions, immortal athletes, and as Hungary's most popular sports club, it has grown over time into one of the greatest legends of the Carpathian Basin. A sports club that is a joy to cheer for, whose fans pray for victory with religious obsession.
Fradi was Fradi, Fradi is Fradi, and it is much easier to wish a happy birthday if you know that Fradi will be Fradi even if you yourself do not exist anymore.
Happy 125th birthday, Ferencvárosi Torna Club!
