Our 32-time Hungarian men's champion football team played the eternal derby against our rival MTK in the 21st round of the OTP Bank Liga.
Four new players joined the team at the start of the week, with Brazilian Marquinhos getting a chance to prove himself as a starter, while Anderson Esiti, Lóránd Pászka and Carlos Auzqui took their places on the bench. Stanislav Cherchesov sent on a starting XI of Dibusz - Wingo, S. Mmaee, Blazic, Botka - Laidouni, Vécsei, Zachariassen - Tokmac, Marquinhos - Boli.
First half
Marquinhos was in position right from the start of the game, but his attempt was cut off by a defender and there was no danger from the corner. A few minutes later, Boli's shot bounced off a home body in suspicious circumstances and many expected a penalty, but Ferenc Karakó's whistle remained silent. Zachariassen then tried a long-range effort but his shot was off target. In the 30th minute, Marquinhos received a good start on the left wing and after a few dribbles, he curled the ball into the middle, but Mijatovic, who burst out of the goal, got to the ball before Zachariassen. At the other end, our former champion player, Spirovski got into position but his shot went wide of the goal. Ten minutes later, Wingo's cross found Vécsei, who offered Mijatovic from about 17 meters, but the latter won their duel. The next situation came immediately: after a clearance, Laidouni raced on the ball and then launched Tokmac, whose curved shot missed the target.
Second half
We started the second half actively, Marquinhos' attempt was blocked, but a few minutes later Wingo's powerful shot found the net, but the Montenegrin goalkeeper Mijatovic was not to be denied. It was not long before MTK had their first dangerous chance. The ball luckily found its way to Miovski inside the penalty area, but Dibusz managed to save his weak shot. Three substitutions were then made, with Botka replaced by Eldar Civic, Boli by Fortune Bassey and Marquinhos by another debutant, Carlos Auzqui.
In the 69th minute, we had a real fireworks display in front of the MTK goal: first Blazic's header was saved by the home goalkeeper, then Samy Mmaee's header found no way into the net. Bassey then headed the ball into the goal, but János Szépe cleared on the goal line and Mijatovic again had to make a great save. In the 78th minute, Vécsei's driven play payed off as he scrambled the ball all the way to the penalty area and his cross found Civic who shot unstoppably, but again the goalkeeper saved. Shortly afterwards, Zachariassen's shot reached the net, but the video referee ruled the goal to be disallowed.
There were no more chances and the score remained a 0-0 draw. Our team will next play Gyirmót next Saturday in the 22nd round of the championship.
