Pascal Jansen has been appointed as Head Coach of Ferencváros' men's football side.
He was born in London on 27 January 1973, to a Dutch musician father and an English singer mother. A dual Dutch-English national, he grew up in Zaandam, the Netherlands, where he started playing football. During his youth career, he has played for AZ Alkmaar, Ajax, Haarlem and Telstar, among others. His active career was ended by a knee injury before he made his senior debut.
Jansen then turned to a career in coaching, working as a youth coach at Haarlem from 1993 to 1998, before trying his luck in Asia, spending two seasons on the coaching staff of Al-Jazeera and Al-Wahda. He then returned to the Netherlands, where he worked in the academies of Vitesse and Sparta Rotterdam.
In 2011, he continued to work with Sparta Rotterdam's first team as an assistant coach. Two years later, he joined PSV, where he was first expected to work in the academy, managing both the U19 and U21 teams for two years. From 2017, he managed PSV's academy for a year, before joining AZ Alkmaar.
He was straight into the senior side at Alkmaar, first as an assistant coach for two years before being appointed head coach in December 2020, a position he held until January 2024.
Under his leadership, the team finished fourth and fifth in the Dutch championship, with one bronze medal and one bronze.
On the international stage, he has guided the Red and Whites to the Europa Conference League on all three occasions, failing to progress from the group stage last season, but taking them to the last eight in 2022 and taking Alkmaar all the way to the semi-finals last season. Interestingly, our new coach has worked with Hungarian international Kerkez Milos for a year and a half, so he is no stranger to our domestic football.
