It is official that Ryan Mmaee, who played for Ferencváros for two years from the summer of 2021, will leave the Hungarian men's football team. The Moroccan international striker will continue with English second division side Stoke City.
Ryan came to Ferencváros from AEL Limassol in Cyprus after his brother Samy Mmaee, and immediately became a regular in our team. He scored in his first international cup game against Prishtina (Kosovo) and then scored a double in the following round at Zalgiris in Lithuania. He also netted for Young Boys of Switzerland in the play-off round of the UEFA Champions League qualifying competition and then made his mark in the UEFA Europa League group stage with a goal against Bayer Leverkusen. On the European stage, he has been no stranger to goals and assists on home soil. He scored his first NB I goal on 31 July 2021 against Kisvárda, and added 12 more to his tally to become our team's top scorer, while he also had six assists in the Hungarian top flight.
In the MOL Hungarian Cup, he scored an important goal against Vasas, and the rest is history: FTC won the league title and the cup. The younger Mmaee brother finished his first season in Ferencváros with an impressive tally of 19 goals and 11 assists in 37 games.
Ryan Mmaee's performances have also earned him more opportunities with the Moroccan national team, with two appearances in the Africa Cup of Nations and four goals in 12 appearances for the national team.
He injured his ankle during the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations in the spring, and by the end of the season surgery was unavoidable, leaving the striker without a playing opportunity from April 2022. As a result, he had to miss almost all of our 2022 qualifiers for the European Champions League, only returning to the pitch for the 3-1 home defeat to Qarabag.
The striker had to wait a long time for his first goal on his return, but it was a more memorable one, coming on again in a historic 6-0 win over Újpest, before immediately afterwards scoring a double against Kisvárda.
Ryan Mmaee ended the 2022/23 season with 13 goals and four assists in 36 games. With 12 league goals, he once again became our top scorer, overtaking Adama Traore with 11 goals in a close race.
The Moroccan striker made 73 appearances in his Ferencváros career, scoring 32 times and assisting 15 times. During his time in Népliget, he won the championship twice and the Hungarian Cup once.
