
Our 35-time Hungarian champion and UEL top-flight men's football team started their participation in the 2024/25 MOL Hungarian Cup, in the 3rd round we visited the home of NB II team, Budafok MTE. Head coach Pascal Jansen sent the starting line-up of Dibusz - Makreckis, Cissé, Szalai, Ramírez - Abu Fani, Pappoe - Kady, Zachariassen, Kady - Pesics onto the pitch.
First half
In the 6th minute, Kady took a great ball up the right side, neither of them could deal with it, and then Zachariassen's shot rebounded. Five minutes later, Kehinde changed the tempo and brought on Zachariassen, who found Pesic in the middle but his header was off target. Pesics then tried a footed effort, but after a deflection he shot over. In the 17th minute, the home goalkeeper miscalculated, the ball went to Kehinde but his effort was blocked, and then Zachariassen headed over and Kady missed. Abu Fani then gave a great pass to Kehinde, he had a good shot but it was just blocked by a home defender. In the 26th minute, Makreckis' shot bounced dangerously downwards but just hit the top of the net. Despite several Fradi chances, in the 28th minute the home side had their best chance of the game, Vasvári hitting the post. Four minutes later we threatened through Ramírez but failed to take the lead. Kady's corner was headed inwards by Szalai but the ball came out. After Ramírez's cross, Pesics took the ball with his chest, then Kehinde shot after a turnover, but Horváth saved. In the 40th minute, Kady's free kick was heading to the bottom right but the goalkeeper got there and saved. After a lively attack Kady shot again, Horváth saved. The teams went into the break with a goalless draw.
Second half
In the 50th minute, Kady turned and shot with the left foot, but Horváth saved. Zachariassen, Pappoe and Pesics left the pitch in the 60th minute, replaced by Rommens, Traoré and Saldanha. We didn't have to wait long, a minute later, after Abu Fani's lift, Saldanha beat his defender and scored to give our team the lead (0-1)! Three minutes later, Abu Fani was in the finishing role this time, scoring a rebound to double our lead (0-2)! In the 71st minute, Traoré's cross was well taken by Saldanha, who turned the ball into the goal and scored his second goal in his first match (0-3)! In the 77th minute, our head coach made changes on both sides of our defence, with Kaján and Civic replacing Makreckis and Ramírez. In the 87th minute Budafok could have equalized, but Kálnoki-Kis couldn't find the net.
All in all, our team advanced to the next round of the MOL Hungarian Cup with a 3-0 win over Budafok.
