32-time Hungarian champion Ferencvárs strenghtens its men’s football team with Ryan Mmaee, brother of our defender Samy Mmaee. The 23-year old striker arrives from AEL Limassol (Cyprus), which team finished third in the league and reached the semi-final of the domestic cup. Ryan Mmaee became the top scorer of the upper tier so he arrives in a great form to Fradi. He earned the recognition of his mates as well, as he was selected into the Cypriot dream team, what’s more, with votes from all 13 opponents.
Introduction
With Moroccan ancestors, Ryan Mmaee was born in Belgium, in Geraardsbergen. His youth teams were Gent and Stadard de Liége. He had his senior debut at 18 playing at Standard, just against his former club, gent. In season 2015/16 he claimed his first trophy, the Belgian Cup.
In 2018 he was loaned out to Waasland-Beveren. Here he had 20 league appearances with one goal and five assists. Later he returned to Standard, then signed to Aarhus in Denmark. Finally, he transferred to Cyprus, to AEL Limassol.
This step was a real breakthrough in Ryan’s career: in 19 appearances, he scored five times. Against APOEL he scored the even the winning goal. By the season 2020/21 he became a regular at the team and played 22 matches with 8 goals and 4 assists. The top tier in the closing rounds of the league was even better for him: in 8 matches he scored 6 times, thus he became the top scorer in the league play-offs. In the cup AEL reached the semi-final and finished third.
The 23-year old player is very goal-sensitive and this he could show in the youth Belgian national teams as well: at U19 he scored three times, and at the U21 team once.
On the senior level Ryan represents the Moroccan national team, where he has had one appearance so far: in 2016 he played against Albania.
Fun fact that the Mmaee family is a true football family: Ryan’s older brother, Samy is currently a player of Ferencváros, while his other brother, Jacky plays in Luxemburg, and the younger brother Camil at Standard’s U21 team.
This is not the first time that Samy and Ryan play together: they had the opportunity at the Belgian U21 team and also at Standard de Liége during season 2015/16.
