After the heroic match over Slavia Praha in the Champions League, Peter Stöger’s team played against Mezőkövesd at the Groupama Arena Saturday night. Mezőkövesd has been unbeaten in the new season so far while ours suffered a defeat in the first round and the match from the second round was postponed. This match did not start well for Fradi either, Mezőkövesd took the lead already in the first minutes. Soon after the goal, we equalized, but the referee annulled the goal due to a clash between one of the strikers and the goalkeeper. We played offensively and just before half time we not only equalized by Boli, but also took turned the result around by Mak’s goal.
In the second half we controlled the game and the opponents were waiting for counter attack opportunities. They were close to making it even once more but Dibusz stopped them. In the 65th minute Uzuni received a penalty that he converted confidently. Finally, just before the final whistle Wingo launched Boli from our own box who ran past his defender and finished the attack with a beautiful, lobbed goal.
Ferencváros finished the match with a 4-1 victory and awaits the weekday Champions League playoff against Young Boys.
