Our men’s soccer team has added another player to its squad, as Veljko Birmancsevic joins Ferencváros. The 28-year-old Serbian player can play both as a winger and a forward; we signed him from Sparta Prague of the Czech First League.

Veljko Birmancsevic was born on March 5, 1998, in Šabac, Serbia. As a youth player, he played for Stevan Cele Vilotic, OFK Šabac, and Partizan Belgrade between 2010 and 2016, with the latter ultimately becoming his first professional club.

As a professional, Birmancsevic initially played for Serbian clubs; he was loaned out by Partizan to FK Teleoptik Zemun, Rad, and Čukaricki. He saw the most playing time with the latter, recording 15 goals and 16 assists in 83 competitive matches between 2018 and 2021. Interestingly, even back then—when he was being considered for the Serbian youth national teams—his name was already being mentioned in connection with Ferencváros. However, the next stop in the Serbian player’s career was not Hungary but Sweden; he joined Malmö in 2021. During his one-and-a-half years with the Swedish club, Birmancsevics scored 29 goals in 73 competitive matches and also played in the UEFA Champions League group stage.

In September 2022, he left Malmö to join Toulouse, a team in the French top division, where he appeared in 30 matches—scoring one goal and recording one assist. From the French club, he first went on loan to Sparta Prague in 2023, then transferred there permanently a year later; his value was 9M EUR when he changed clubs in 2024.

While playing for Sparta, he scored 37 goals in 109 competitive matches and also recorded 21 assists. Over the years, he has competed with the Czech team in the Champions League, the Europa League, and the Europa Conference League.

Birmancsevic left Prague for a loan stint with Spanish first-division club Getafe in February 2026, but he made only six league appearances in La Liga before returning to Sparta this summer, where he was not considered part of the first-team squad.

Veljko Birmancsevic is a Czech, Serbian, Swedish, and French cup winner; he also won league titles in 2021 with Malmö and in 2024 with Sparta Prague. He made his debut for the Serbian national team in 2021 and has since earned 17 caps. At the 2024 European Championship, hosted by Germany, he played against both England and Slovenia.

“We’ve known Veljko for a long time; we’ve seen him play many times, even back when he was still with Csukaricski. With him, we’ve added a forward to the team who can play both as a number 10 and on the wing. He’s a creative forward who excels at both finishing and creating scoring opportunities, as evidenced by his stats in national leagues and international cup competitions. We expect him to be a key member of the team and to make our offense even more unpredictable, dynamic, and dangerous through his play.”
