Twenty-five years ago the football team of Ferencváros made a miracle by knocking out the Belgian champion with a 1-1 draw in the rematch against Anderlecht and qualifying for the Champions League Group Stage for the first time in the history of FTC!
The first CL game was played in September – a 3-0 victory against Grasshoppers in Zürich. To commemorate the 25th anniversary, FradiMedia has made a documentary with 25 recent interviews as well as exclusive photos, plenty of archives, including footage from the crew following the CL team’s march.
The documentary shows each step that helped FTC in the Group Stage, the qualifying against Anderlecht, why everyone thought we had no chance, and the scandals that preceded the first group match. Furthermore, it shows the games in Group D against Grasshoppers, Ajax, and Real Madrid.
We found out what happened in the break that led to a victory after a lousy first half against Grasshoppers, why the team broke down at the huge Bernabéu, why the fans threatened to hang the leaders of the club, and what was the ‘hooting scandal’ that surrounded the match against Ajax.
We also recall the fan culture of the ’90s, when it was only natural for fans to walk into the locker room, or to talk with the players in the Fradi pub, but also to be friends with the footballers.
Now, 25 years later, Ferencváros is in a very similar position since we qualified for the Champions League Group Stage again! As we are writing history in the present, this movie is a great opportunity to learn more about the past and history of Ferencváros, to get to know the intensity of Fradism!
