After a 4-0 away win against Zalgiris Vilnius in the ECL play-off, our 34-time Hungarian men's football champion hosted Paks in the 5th round of the NB I at Groupama Arena. This was our third league game this season, after two matches were postponed due to our international commitments. Csaba Máté started with Dibusz - Makreckis, Mmaee, Cissé, Pászka - Esiti, Abu Fani - Traoré, Ben Romdhane, Tokmac - Varga B.
1st Half
The game started with a great opportunity, Tokmac stepped out from between two defenders and tried to flick the ball past Szappanos, but the goalkeeper saved. In the 7th minute, Pászka's free kick bounced off the top bar. But we only had to wait until the 10th minute for a goal, when Traoré came from the wing, went into the middle and fired a powerful shot to give our team the lead (1-0)! Five minutes later, Ben Romdhane shot wide of the post, Varga shot over, but it was a read. In the 20th minute, Ben Romdhane broke a shot and the bouncing ball was good for Varga, who headed into the goal from close range (2-0)! Mmaee's header then missed the target, Traoré's shot did, but was disallowed for an offside. In the 29th minute Abu Fani crossed to Varga, who beat his man and scored our third goal (3-0)! Ten minutes before the end of the first half, the visitors scored an unexpected goal through Kovács (3-1). In reply, Barnabás Varga scored his third goal, after he passed the goalkeeper and shot into the empty net, scoring a classic hat trick (4-1)! This was not the end of the goal parade, we scored two more goals in the first half's extra time! Abu Fani's cross was not cleared by the defence and Mmaee scored our fifth goal (5-1). In extra time, Abu Fani was again the star, his corner was headed into the net by Tokmac (6-1)!
2nd Half
At the break, Csaba Máté made one change, Esiti was replaced by Sigér, and our opponent made three changes. In the 48th minute, Pászka's long-range shot was saved by Szappanos, then the defenders saved to a corner from Traoré. In the 57th minute, Ben Romdhane shot on goal but was disallowed for an earlier foul. In the 60th minute, Pesics, Lisztes and Owusu came on for Varga, who had three goals, and also for Traoré and Abu Fani. Our former legend, Dániel Böde also came on for Paks, and Dibusz had to save a flat shot. In the 67th minute Lisztes crossed to Pesics, who hit the post. Then Ben Romdhane left the pitch, Abena arrived, which also brought some reorganizations. Böde threatened again in the 77th minute. The second half was quiet, with few chances, the first half clearly decided the match. Cissé was unable to continue at the end of the game, but as we had already taken advantage of all our substitution opportunities, we finished the game with 10 men. In the last minute of normal time, Dibusz had to make a quick save from a shot, our goalkeeper saved it and then collected the ball after a corner. In extra time, after a shot by Kovács, Dibusz was again needed to keep the final score.
Ahead of the return leg of the Conference League tie against Zalgiris Vilnius, our team won convincingly at home 6-1 to take six points in the league after three games.
