Today's result did not matter to Ferencváros that much. Now, that was not the mentality that Stanislav Cherchesov emphasized to our footballers before the final UEL group game against Trabzonspor. Last week's 1-1 home draw against Monaco meant that our football team would go through to the UEFA Europa League's spring continuation, straight to the best 16, in first place, regardless of the result of the last round.
Our head coach sent his team out with the same spirit. In goal, Dibusz was again the defender, preceded by the four-man defense of Wingo, S. Mmaee, Knoester, Pászka. The trio of Vécsei, Laidouni, Esiti filtered, while Zachariassen, R. Mmaee and Tokmac attacked as three strikers.
Far from being a full house as expected, and about 100 Fradi fans from one of the upper sections of the stadium cheered our team from the first minutes.
It was necessary, because in the first minutes the Turks had much more possession. Unfortunately, the slight field advantage turned into a goal in the 7th minute. Trézéguet received a good ball on the left, rolled it back to the oncoming Bakasetas, who scored with a left-footed, powerful shot from the right post to give Trabzonspor the lead. 1-0!
Egyptian winger Trézéguet was in a great form today. First, he broke through a rebounded ball to the sixteen-yard line, then he shot with his right, but luckily for us he hit the right post, then he launched Yazici superbly, but shot over his Turkish teammate. In the 21st minute, Bartra's header was well saved by Dibusz.
In the 32nd minute we finally got to the home goal. After a promising pass, Tokmac curled a shot over Ryan Mmaee's head, but our striker nodded over. At the other end, Yazici shot flew wide, but Dibusz had to make a great save from Bakasetas' next effort. Samy Mmaee made another great save in the dying stages of the first half, but the scoreline remained the same as Trabzonspor led 1-0 at the break.
The second period started with a Tokmac shot, but the Norwegian winger, who had doubled in Budapest, missed this time. After that, the ball bounced around the field, with the teams barely getting a chance to score. In the 68th minute, Mercier, making his first appearance in the UEL group stage, gave Zachariassen a fine pass, but the midfielder, who had moved into the empty area, was well read. A few minutes later, our Norwegian, after a superb crossing move, gave the loan back to his French team-mate, who just missed the cross.
In the 81st minute, a vital Vécsei shot was well saved by goalkeeper Cakir, before Kovacevic narrowly missed the target. In the second half of the game we improved our game, we got in front of Trabzonspor's goal several times and had some promising chances, but without a goal.
Dibusz saved a great shot in the end of the second half, but the result remained unchanged, Trabzonspor won 1-0 with an early goal. However, more importantly, Ferencváros Torna Club qualified as group winners and will continue their excellent run in the UEFA Europa League best 16 in the spring!
