After Isaac Pappoe, Raul Gustavo and Kady Borges, we have a fourth summer signing for our men's football team: 26-year-old Belgian midfielder Philippe Rommens has been signed from Dutch top-flight side Go Ahead Eagles.
- Philippe had a great season in the Dutch top flight with a surprise team. He is a complex midfielder with a great work rate. I am confident that he can bring a skill and quality to our midfield that we will be able to utilise well during the season. It's an advantage that he and Pascal Jansen already know each other, he knows what the coach expects of him and he knows exactly what he can do on the pitch. We are confident that he will quickly get into the rhythm of the team and settle in quickly" said about our new signing, Tamás Hajnal, Sporting Director.
Presentation
Philippe Rommens was born on 20 August 1997 in Wommelgem, near Antwerp. Rommens was introduced to football not far from his home at KFC Ranst, before playing for Lierse SK, founded in 1906. His talents showed at an early age and quickly attracted the attention of several clubs, including 25-time Dutch champions and Champions League winners PSV Eindhoven.
In 2006, he was signed by the Eindhoven club, where he spent more than ten years in the academy. He was a key figure in both the U19 and U21 teams. He has played for the former in the UEFA Youth League and has also played against Manchester United, CSKA Moscow, Wolfsburg and Atlético Madrid.
In August 2018, he left PSV's academy to join Dutch second division side TOP Oss, where he played alongside his brother Olivier Rommens. In total, he played 87 matches for Oss, scoring 17 goals and handing out 5 assists. After nearly three years in the Dutch second division, he joined Go Ahead Eagles.
He played 94 games for the four-time Dutch champions from Deventer, playing a total of 7758 minutes, scoring 11 goals and making 14 assists. At the end of the 2023/24 season, he scored against NEC Nijmegen and assisted a goal against FC Utrecht in a match for the UEFA Europa League qualification, helping Deventerie to qualify for the international cup. On 8 September 2015, he made his debut for the Belgian U19 national team, scoring the winning goal against the Polish national team. He came on for the team that beat San Marino 9-0 and also played an assist in that match.
