The 31-time Hungarian Champion Ferencváros signed today the Norwegian Champion, FK Molde’s right back, Henry Wingo. The 25-year old American right back and winger played last against our team in the Champions League play-off match in September.
Introduction
Henry Wingo was born October 4th, 1995 in Seattle, Washington. He started playing at the local Seattle Sounders FC and signed later his first professional agreement. After two years in the youth teams of Seattle, in 2014 he transferred to Washington Huskies. Half a season later Washington loaned him out to PSA Elite but three months later he returned to Washington once again.
Sounders FC used him in both the first and second team and also sent him on loan to further teams. He was part of the Champion team of MLS with Seattle. Then, in 2019 august, he signed overseas, to Molde. In his first Norwegian season they won the league and the right to participate in the Champions League qualifiers.
Molde played successfully up until the playoffs, where they met our side: the American defender was on the pitch during the entire first leg (ending with 3-3), later, after Ferencváros proceeded to the group stage, participated in the Europa League with Molde. Out of the 6 appearances in EL, Wingo played throughout 4 matches: twice against Arsenal and also against Dundalk and Rapid Wien. Molde collected 10 points and qualified for the next rounds in the Europa League.
He was a regular at Molde even during season 2020: he played 20 times, scored twice and had one assist. Molde finished second in the league. He scored his first professional goal in Norway against Viking on July 15th, 2020.
On September 19, 2020, he scored his second goal against Valerenga.
