Ferencváros' 34-time Hungarian men's football champions encountered Hamrun Spartans of Malta in the UEFA Europa Conference League third qualifying round second leg tonight. Our head coach Csaba Máté sent the starting line-up of Varga Á. - Wingo, Knoester, Cissé, Pászka - Sigér, Abu Fani - Traoré, Tokmac, Zachariassen - Varga B to the pitch.
First half
Our team had won the first match 6-1, so the question of progression was actually decided in the first match, but Csaba Máté's team played in an attacking spirit from the first minute. At the end of the third minute, Abu Fani fired a shot on goal, his attempt bouncing off a Maltese defender and Marchetti made the save.
However, the visitors took the lead through Mbong, who headed into the goal after Montebello's header (0-1). The visitors continued to have more possession after the goal. Then, in the tenth minute Tokmac was aggressive, after his ball was collected, Barnabás Varga played the ball towards the goal, but his attempt missed the target. In the 14th minute, Wingo crossed in front of goal, and again Varga was on hand to cross, but his header was saved by Marchetti.
Ten minutes later, our striker was again in position after Abu Fani's free kick, but the Hamrun keeper was again on the spot, and in the 33rd minute, Abu Fani's shot was cleared. Our team kept the pressure on the opponents throughout the second half of the first half, which finally paid off as three minutes before the break Barnabás Varga crossed to Traoré, who nodded into the Hamrun net to take a 1-1 draw into the break.
Second half
In the second half of the game, our team pushed their opponents even more, attacking high up the pitch several times, which disrupted the visitors' ball flow. The superiority also led to situations, in the 53rd minute Sigér's shot rattled off the crossbar. In the 60th minute, Csaba Máté sent new forces into the forward line, Tokmac was replaced by Marquinhos and Traore by Lisztes.
In the 69th minute, our Brazilian international was set up by Civic, who came on at the break, and Marquinhos broke in off the baseline and crossed to Varga, who scored (2-1). Two minutes later, Lisztes was pulled down 25 metres from goal, Abu Fani again got behind the ball, and it was only Marchetti's bravery that prevented us from scoring another goal.
In the last ten minutes, we made another change as Abu Fani left the pitch to applause and was replaced by Amer Gojak. In the second half of the match, our team was more dangerous, but another goal was scored, and we won the match back and forth, 8-2 on aggregate, to reach the play-offs against Zalgiris Vilnius of Lithuania.
