Winning Debut on the Bench
Our team, led by Balázs Borbély, played its first match against second-division Tiszakécske.

Our record-champion men’s football team began preparations for the 2026/27 OTP Bank Liga season on June 8 under the guidance of new head coach Balázs Borbély. Following intensive training sessions, the team played its first closed-door preseason match against NB II side Tiszakécske at the MVM-Népliget Training Center.

In our new head coach’s first match, he put his trust in the following starting lineup: Á. Varga – Szabó, Gómez, Botka, O’Dowda – Z. Varga, Arzani, Keita, Corbu, Csirkovics – Yusuf

meaning that three players returning from loan were given the chance to prove themselves in a competitive match.

Despite the intense heat, both teams set a brisk pace; the first promising chance fell to Bamidele Yusuf, though he was unable to convert it into a goal. However, what he missed at first, he turned into a goal on his second attempt (1-0). Shortly after the early break, Zétény Varga scored off a pass from Daniel Arzani (2-0). Still in the first half, following a corner kick, Alekszandar Csirkovics made a superb run onto the ball and extended our lead to three with a thunderous strike (3-0). Half an hour into the game - as planned, the visitors made a goalkeeper substitution - but Zétény Varga, running down the right side after a superb pass from Naby Keita, scored again to put the new goalkeeper on the scoreboard as well (4-0). The final play of the half also belonged to the green-and-whites, as Máriusz Corbu curled the ball past the goalkeeper into the bottom right corner (5-0).

At halftime, we switched up the lineup, and the following starting eleven took the field:
Dibusz – Nagy O., Lakatos, Raemaekers, Nagy B. – Levi, Bagi, Rommens, Kanikovszki, Acolatse – Kovacevic.  The second half was mostly a field-battle, and the heat made things significantly more difficult for the players on the field. Then, we finally managed to break through, with Acolatse assisting and Gavriel Kanikovszki converting the follow-up (6–0).

Toward the end, Tiszakécske was awarded a penalty kick, which the visitors converted to pull one back, so we ultimately won our first preseason match 6-1 at Népliget with Balázs Borbély.
