Our women's handball team made its home debut in the 2026/2027 Champions League season on Saturday afternoon with a clash against RK Krim OTP Group Mercator. Based on paper form, many probably took a victory against the Slovenian champions for granted, but on Friday, Blanka Böde-Bíró pointed out that no match in the CL should be taken lightly. We might recall the struggle against Sola last season, but even just a week ago, Krim made CSM Bucuresti sweat, leading them after thirty minutes of play.

It was our goalkeeper who did the most in the first fifteen minutes to ensure the team could play with composure. The tempo was good right from the start, though we made a few errors in our attacks, allowing the visitors to keep pace until 4-3. Then came a world-class performance from our team captain, sparking a 4-0 run that quickly put us five goals ahead (8-3). The opponent had a few flashes, successfully finding their physically strong pivot, Liliane Martins Mariot, on the line several times, but they couldn't close the gap to fewer than four goals. In fact, it seemed we would more or less decide the match by the end of the first half.

We were effective from every position, our defense remained rock solid, Böde-Bíró made saves with outstanding efficiency, and we scored into an empty net multiple times punishing Krim's seven-on-six plays.

The first half ended at 21-12. After the break, the visitors tried the seven-on-six tactic once more, but with little success—it was instead us who capitalized on it. We pushed our lead beyond ten goals; the players' body language made it clear that the fate of the two points was sealed, but we didn't really slow down—and the fans deserved to be entertained. At the back, our concentration might have slipped a little, but we still managed to launch numerous fast breaks, and at 35-20, there was already a fifteen-goal difference between the teams.

We still had a few spectacular goals left in the tank, and although Krim made the scoreline look a bit more respectable in the final minutes, we could still celebrate a confident victory and many great individual performances. After the final whistle, the team received a celebration fitting for an eleven-goal success.
