This week marked the tenth anniversary of one of DKKA’s greatest achievements, their EHF Cup triumph, but the club’s current situation is far less uplifting. The team is finishing the season with several youth players in the squad and will definitely be relegated at the end of the campaign. Regardless of the circumstances, we still had to collect the two points on Saturday afternoon – and the team approached the task professionally from the very beginning.
The hosts could keep pace for just over three minutes (3–3), before our defence tightened up a notch, which our wings benefited from the most. After turnovers, Júlia Hársfalvi and later Gréta Márton repeatedly scored on the fast break, while the gap quickly began to grow. Laura Glauser finished the first half with eight saves, and the scoreboard already showed 11–26 after thirty minutes. Several youngsters featured in the reverse fixture back in January, but this time that was not an option with our second team also in action in NB I/B, meaning Dunaújváros could hardly expect our tempo to drop.
The home side also tried attacking with seven players in the second half, but the real question was how focused we would remain defensively – and in one-on-one situations, because we spent very little time attacking against a settled defence. Glauser’s 42-percent save efficiency was comfortably surpassed by Kinga Janurik after the break, as she reached 75 percent after just over fifteen minutes on court, while our wings combined for twenty goals.
In the 49th minute, Anna Szeibert’s goal gave us a thirty-goal lead (13–43), while maintaining almost a goal-per-minute pace. Speaking of milestones, our 50th goal also came from Szeibert, but everyone had their share in the scoring, with Gréta Márton finishing as top scorer with nine goals.
We handled the match professionally against a hard-working DKKA side, and next weekend we host DVSC at the Elek Gyula Arena.
