Our women’s handball team once again showed its strength — along with the incredible support of the Elek Gyula Aréna crowd — in Wednesday’s top-of-the-table clash against Győr, which ended in a draw. In a thrilling, high-intensity encounter full of twists and turns, the team played in an electric atmosphere, which undoubtedly contributed to extending our remarkable unbeaten run on home court — now stretching to 75 consecutive league matches.
This extraordinary streak began at the start of the 2020/21 season. Since then, the record stands at 73 wins and 2 draws — one of them being this Wednesday’s draw, while the other dates back to January 2023, a 30–30 draw against Debrecen.
Naturally, it is the big victories that stand out the most, especially those against Győr. Many will recall the famous 2021 “rematch”, when we overturned a six-goal deficit to claim a dominant 31–22 win. Equally unforgettable is the six-goal victory in November 2023, which ultimately proved decisive in securing the league title — and together with the cup triumph, completed a historic double.
Our last home league defeat dates all the way back to 18 February 2020, against Siófok, in the season that was later interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Interestingly, four players of our current squad featured in that match: Gréta Márton, Blanka Böde-Bíró, Katrin Klujber and Júlia Hársfalvi — although the latter was still playing for the opposition at the time.
