Our women's handball team kicked off the 2026/2027 season of the K&H Handball League on Wednesday evening as Moyra-Budaörs United Shipping visited the Elek Gyula Aréna. Although our new players had already undergone their baptism of fire during Sunday's Supercup, the first league match—as well as the first home game—still held some excitement.

The first Fradi goal of the league campaign was scored by Angela Malestein, and we took the lead for the first time with Elizabeth Omoregie's strike in the fourth minute (2-1). The team wasn't as tight as they had been in the first half in Székesfehérvár, and the tempo wasn't quite there either, making the match relatively close. We pulled away by two or three goals, then capitalized on Blanka Böde-Bíró's saves to lead by five at 13-8, but we made several mistakes in the closing stages of the half. The match flowed relatively slowly, with the fans mostly still getting to know the new players. In terms of atmosphere, it resembled a pre-season friendly more than a league game, but we couldn't afford to fall asleep.

It was important for us to find our rhythm and speed up in the second half, as we will be taking the court in the first round of the Champions League group stage this weekend. We started from 15-13 after the break, and we were glad to see an improvement in our performance; the play became tighter, primarily in defense. We also scored efficiently from fast breaks. Petra Simon, who came onto the court in the second half, was our most prolific scorer during this period, arriving with momentum and shooting irresistibly into the net on multiple occasions. We won the first twelve minutes of the second half 10-3, prompting the visitors' head coach, Dániel Buday, to call his third timeout of the match, but from there he could no longer turn the tide of the game. His team even tried playing with seven attackers, but our defense stood firm on its feet.

The goal difference did not change significantly in the closing minutes; we somewhat slowed down the pace, perhaps already keeping the weekend in mind. We confidently kept the two points at home, but our performance definitely still needs improvement—especially for the upcoming away clash against Buducnost.
