“I really hope we’ve learned from our last game and won’t start another match so weakly,” said Elek Gábor before the game. He got an answer from the ladies quickly - this time they were not easy on the Krim, after only 15 minutes we had a 5 goal lead. We really wanted to win this game to get to third place.
Klujber Katrin played amazingly and scored 6 goals. Bíró Blanka was also marvelous, she was in her usual form and avoided lots of goals from Ljubljana.
After 10-5, for a short time, we didn’t pay attention and Ljubljana was able to score 4 goals, but we managed to get back into the game and left the court with a 5-goal lead (16-11) after the first period.
We started the second period a little too calm, Háfra Noémi scored a goal in only 12 seconds. Our defense quickly woke up and made it even harder for the opponent to score.
Some of our opportunities missed the net, but the ladies were confident and we always had at least a 3-goal lead. During the last 10 minutes, we were leading with 5 goals again; after the goal of Márton Gréta, we were almost sure that we were going home with 2 points.
The 17-year-old Tóth Nikolett played on a Champions League match for the first time and helped our team with a goal.
In the last minute, Ljubljana scored two goals, but we still won the game and secured the third place in the group.
In the quarterfinals, we’ll be facing the Russian team Rostov-Don.
